River Tour Pays Off
Joe Pena of Dade Community Foundation and other civic leaders
boat along the Miami River Tuesday during an announcement that
the federal government has earmarked $5 million for the first
Miami River dredging project in 66 years. The dredging can't
begin until a local government partner comes forward to put up
the remaining 20 percent of the project's $81 million cost. Miami-Dade
County has expressed interest, but hasn't committed to the project
yet.
